Workflow – File Handling
Fairlight has always supported file transfer through its ubiquitous software application AV Transfer, with Fairlight’s own file structure being .MT. Well, CC-1 on the Windows platform changes all that forever and we are absolutely dedicated to making support of ALL the essential file formats a cornerstone and unique selling point for our systems. The new “drag and drop” file handling in CC-1 is what really impresses our newest customers. Grab a file from any networked drive, drag it on the timeline and it’s open and ready to go in a heartbeat. OMF is still a very popular medium for file exchange but now you can also open and save AES31 and AAF files blazingly fast, without the need for time consuming file conversion. And if that’s not enough we are talking about multi-media files here – audio and video, after all, Fairlight is a truly integrated audio and video working environment.
Our conversations with European customers, particularly broadcasters, confirm our belief that AAF together with MXF is the most efficient and comprehensive file wrapper and therefore the most desirable, if not essential, requirement for workflow. In addition, with the popularity of Apple’s Final Cut Pro growing by the day, file exchange with iXML is also a hot topic. This is why you will see a steady stream of new file handling features from Fairlight over this coming trade show season. We are committed to delivering not only a fully integrated feature set but also integration in the wider sense, facility wide. You saw this last year when we uniquely partnered with the Autodesk® to use their Wiretap™ technology to access media stored on Autodesk® Stone® disk arrays without the need to convert files or copy media across the network. We will continue these initiatives and continue to deliver the workflow support you tell us that you need.
